Westinghouse was on hand to drop the puck as the Metropolitan Riveters hockey team honored the famous J. Howard Miller “We Can Do It” poster earlier this month. The image, which originally hung in Westinghouse factories in February 1943 to increase worker morale, was part of a larger campaign by Westinghouse to encourage women to join the workforce and take up traditionally male-dominated jobs to support the war effort. The poster became the iconic face of “Rosie the Riveter;” honoring thousands of women who bore the brunt of wartime manufacturing. It is no surprise the Metropolitan Riveters chose this iconic symbol as their namesake and Westinghouse is honored to partner with the Riveters this season to celebrate strong women both on and off the ice.
